YOUR CARE, EXPLAINED

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extraction may be recommended when a damaged or failing tooth cannot be maintained. Our team plans your comfort, explains recovery, and helps you understand your options for the space left behind.

When tooth extraction may be recommended

Severe decay, gum disease, injury, or crowding may lead to an extraction recommendation. Your consultation includes an examination, imaging, and a discussion of treatment and anesthesia.

Planning care after a tooth is removed

A visible tooth may need a simple extraction; an impacted or broken tooth may require surgical access. We explain your recovery instructions and, where appropriate, discuss replacement teeth and whether socket preservation should be considered.

What happens during a tooth extraction?

Your surgeon reviews your health, examines the tooth, and discusses anesthesia. An erupted tooth may be loosened and removed. A broken or impacted tooth may require an incision or removal in sections. Sutures may be used.

Protect the socket as it heals

Follow your instructions for food, cleaning, and activity. Avoid smoking, straws, and forceful spitting as directed to protect the blood clot. Call the office about excessive bleeding, severe pain, or concerns.

Replacing a tooth after extraction

Depending on the tooth and your goals, options may include an implant, a bridge, or another restoration. Some patients qualify for an immediate implant. Socket preservation may help prepare the area for a future implant. Wisdom teeth and teeth removed for orthodontics usually do not need replacement.
